Joined the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) as an Observer

October 1994

Joined the EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement as an Observer

November 1996

In conformity with the Resolution (96)37 adopted at the 578th session of the Committee of Ministers’ Deputies, Japan obtained Observer Status in the Council of Europe

November 2001

The Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office obtained Observer Status at the Steering Committee for equality between women and men (CDEG).

Ratified the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons
